For those history buffs, two Mormons, Edwin Rushton and Theodore Turley, said they personally heard Joseph Smith give this prediction at Smith’s home on or about May 6, 1843. Smith allegedly gave numerous predictions in this prophecy, but the portion that is most repeated speaks of a day when the Constitution of the United States will “hang by a thread.” It will be “preserved and saved” by a White Horse, A.K.A. the Mormon Church.
I have heard many people in church settings refer to this prophecy. But, is it true?
No way. Not even close.
Here is what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has to say about this legend in Mormon culture:
"The so-called 'White Horse Prophecy' is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine."

Interesting...seems as if the doomsday prophecies that gays will ruin the world that are held by so many members of the faith seem to be crumbling down by the same church that historically espoused them.

I think it is an interesting "prophecy" but as of late I think it in most Mormons' thoughts when there is talk of Romney being president.
ReplyDeleteI went kind of on a huge soap box rant for my home teacher about the recent home teaching message. At the end it said something about the family being under attack and he said something about gay marriage in the news. And I was like, "NO! The worst thing for the family has nothing to do with gay anything! Pornography is a much bigger problem!"
ReplyDeleteI hate it when Mormons think that since they are talking about the "family under attack" they must be talking about gay marriage. The best thing for kids is to have parents who love and respect each other and gay parents have shown in many studies that they make excellent parents. Pornography and people living together before marriage and single parent homes and drugs and parents who focus on career first and who talk talk to their kids about sex....there are so many things that are ruining families and gay marriage...if it is even on the list...is way to low on the scale to even worry about.
I think that it is a way for Mormons to hear that being said in conference, "The Family is Under Attack" and feel like they are helping fix it. People need to fix their own families before they can say that gays shouldn't have them.
*Don't talk to their kids about sex.
